Rajma Masala Punjabi Style-Lal Lobia-Rajma Curry-Rajma Recipe-Red Kidney Beans

Rajma Recipe or Red Kidney Beans are one of the most popular dishes in Asian and European countries. it is rich in protein, iron, manganese, and contains many healthy vitamins such as vitamin k1. Punjabis love to eat Rajma. Today, i am sharing the written recipe of Rajma or Lal Lobia in detail.

Rajma Recipe Ingredients:

  • Rajma/Red Kidney Beans 500g
  • 3 large sized onions
  • 2 chopped tomatoes
  • 2 1/2 glasses of water
  • 2 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili flakes
  • 2 tbsp. cooking oil
  • 1/2 cup cooking oil
  • 1 tbsp. ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 pinch of kalonji/black cumin
  • Water 2 liters
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1 tbsp. Kasuri methi/Dried fenugreek leaves (optional)
  • 2 chopped green chilies
  • Fresh coriander 2 tbsp.

Method of Making Rajma Recipe At Home:

  • Add onions, tomatoes, water, salt, red chili powder, red chili flakes, turmeric powder and cooking oil in pressure cooker.
  • Now, let the whistle blows for 10 minutes and then turn off the heat.
  • After 10 minutes, switch on the flame and cook until all the water in masala dries up.
  • Once all the water dries up, add 1/2 cup of oil and cook for 2 minutes.
  • After 2 minutes, add 1 tbsp. ginger garlic paste and cook for more 2 minutes.
  • Then add cumin seeds, coriander powder and black cumin in masala.
  • Let it cook for 5 more minutes until the gravy leaves oil.
  • After that add half kg soaked red kidney beans in masala. Cook red beans in masala for more 5 minutes.
  • After that add 2 liters of water and allow the whistle to blow for 20 to 25 minutes until Rajma become soft.
  • Turn off the heat and allow the steam to escape from pressure cooker.
  • Once you are done with this step, switch on the flame again, and cook until rajma curry starts boiling.
  • At this stage, add 1 tsp garam masala powder, dried fenugreek leaves, chopped green chilies and fresh coriander in Rajma.
  • cook them for 1 more minute and turn off the heat.
  • Delicious Rajma masala in Punjabi style is ready to eat.

Note: Soak Rajma in water and 1 tsp salt overnight.
